 Northern
California Orthopedic Centers provides
prompt and comprehensive care to area athletes
and “weekend warriors.” Many of our doctors are
team physicians for local high schools. Our sports
medicine specialists have extensive training and
experience in the treatment of common overuse and
trauma-induced sports injuries. They can design a
personalized treatment plan that includes physical
therapy, training recommendations, and return-to play
guidelines. In addition, a licensed athletic
trainer is on staff at our Sports Medicine Center
to coordinate rehabilitation efforts with student
athletes, their coaches, schools, and parents to
expedite a full recovery and prevent future reinjury.
In many cases, our specialists can get patients back
to their game by utilizing the latest techniques and
technologies—such as arthroscopic surgery—for
diagnosis and treatment. Arthroscopy is the most
common minimally invasive surgery used in
orthopedics. Arthroscopy—which means “to look
within the joint”—enables orthopedic surgeons to
see, diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint.
During arthroscopy, the surgeon makes a small
incision (1/4 inch) and inserts a pencil-sized arthroscope
into the joint. Fiber optics within the scope transmit
images to a TV monitor, allowing the surgeon to
clearly see the internal joint structures.
Because arthroscopy is minimally invasive, there is
little or no hospital stay, reduced pain, scarring, risk
of complications, and faster recovery.
